The Employment Relations Authority has found that an employer deliberately exploited several of its staff by not paying the minimum wage for hours worked and not correctly paying holiday pay.

The shortfall in pay was $3,565 but the employer was fined $25,000 and the director fined $9,000.  This was the second occasion that the Labour Inspector had investigated this company but promised improvements were not honoured.

The company has sold is business to a new owner, but the director of the new owner is the same person who was the director of the original company, so it remains to be seen if the employees see their short paid wages.
